Born on 5 January 1963 in Gaya, Kano State, he hails from the Sullubawa Fulani ruling elite of the Kano Emirate. His academic qualifications include diplomas in Civil and Water Resources Engineering from Federal Polytechnic Mubi and Kaduna Polytechnic, along with a postgraduate diploma in management and an MBA from Bayero University Kano
